The final line from Iron Man inAvengers : Endgamewas in reality a last minute addition to the movie . As the one who kicked off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe , Robert Downey Jr. ’s Tony Stark is once again give a major role in his latest - and final - appearance . avenger : Endgamehas long been gestate to serve as the swan vocal for the genius , billionaire , playboy , philanthropist , and his sendoff is incredibly larger-than-life and emotional .
Iron Man ’s deathcomes during the final conflict against Thanos , and he ’s ultimately the one to batten a victory for the heroes and their entire reality . Right before he does this though , Thanos says"I am inevitable"as he thinks he ’s about to win , but does n’t . Tony reveals that he ’s actually taken the Infinity Stones for himself and utters"I am Iron Man"for one last clock time . The business line in compounding with his gingersnap eliminating Thanos and his full regular army cook for an incredible moment - but this was n’t add up until late in the outgrowth .

carbon monoxide gas - director Anthony and Joe Russo attended a Q&A aboutAvengers : Endgamerecently in Washington DC andSlash Filmobtained a copy of the audio . During the Q&A , it was shockingly revealed that the"I am Iron Man"line was not earlier part of the film . They revealed that he earlier did n’t say anything at all , but added this was the very last scene that was take forAvengers : Endgame .
" Tony used to not say anything in that moment . And we were in the editing room going , ‘ He has to say something . This a role who has lived and died by quip . ’ And we just could n’t , we tried a million different last line . Thanos was saying “ I am inevitable . ” And our editor program Jeff Ford , who ’s been with us all four movies and is an awe-inspiring storyteller , said ‘ Why do n’t we just go full circle with it and say I am Iron Man . ’ And we ’re like , ‘ Get the cameras ! We have to shoot this tomorrow . ' "
Consideringhow many callbacksthe Russos and writer Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely exercise intoAvengers : Endgame , this not being one of them is incredibly surprising . The line is observably his final one inIron Manbefore the Nick Fury stinger , and is also suppose in bothIron Man 2andIron Man 3 , and this change makes it one of his last line in the integral movie . Other than a quick recognition to Pepper Potts , this is the final line that Tony says before he dies - while arecording of himthen plays at his funeral .
It is difficult to imagine Iron Man saying anything else besides"I am Iron Man"at the very end , but it would be even stranger if he did n’t say anything at all . It truly brings Iron Man ’s storey full circle in the MCU , and the fact that it ’s thefinal prospect the Russos may train in the MCUand that Downey shot is nothing poor of noteworthy . gratefully , editor program Jeff Ford was around so that one of the most memorable moments in the story of the divvy up universe andAvengers : Endgamecould exist .
