They ’re never read , not even to the audience , which added to the tenseness of the movie . In the novel , they were able to get off with a little bit more , while still not showing us much . The entities seem to have a bit more of a physical form . Either there was a limit to what they could do , or they preferred the mind game .
Other than some subdued touches and some tugging at blindfold , they seemed content just to stalk and creep . Several character , Malorie include , felt like they could sense their comportment at metre . It ’s unbelievable that this would have translated well into picture formatting though . Whatever the motivations were for the entities not acting with more force-out , they must have at least known that they had the upper hired hand .
Wild Birds
The wild boo are another one of those brute that made it into both version but ultimately ended up being changed . In the movie , the wild birds play an crucial part . It ’s unclear if they were still around by that stop . Malorie never seemed to think of them much beyond that one horrific moment that occurs in both the movie and novel .
Wolves
The wolves are technically another brute that we ca n’t verify . We have a good idea than the bears , based on proximity … but it could have been any number of matter . It seems probable that at least one instance involve wolves or wolf - like creatures .
While on the river the boat terminate up getting stuck in the shoring – an understandable occurrence since they ’re floating unsighted .
During that time Malorie is attack by something . Since we have n’t recognize the entity to do anything physical beyond tug at blindfolds , it seems unlikely that it ’s them . It ’s also unlikely to have been humans . The pincer and growls indicate masher , but we ’re interpreting the shot through Malorie ’s ears , which are not trained to tell apart between dozens of dissimilar specie .
Bears
This is one of those unverified tool we were talking about before . In fact , there ’s a very well chance that there were no bear around Malorie at any full point during the novel . Victor is a perfumed small margin collie . He ’s the only animate being in the book with a name , which is why he ’s sustain the number one position in the list . In the novel , he was Jukes ’ dog , though after certain event he more or less became Malorie ’s dog .
Victor was six old age old at the start of the book , and Jules had raised him since he was just a tiny pup .
