Prolific doer Christian Slater joins legendary actors Glenn Close and Jonathan Pryce inThe Wife . The film is based on the novel of the same name by Meg Wolitzer , direct by Björn Runge , with a screenplay by Jane Anderson . It tells the story of Joan Castleman ( Glenn Close ) reflecting on her life during a misstep to Stockholm . Her married man , Joe Castleman ( Jonathan Pryce ) , is going to have a Noble Prize in Literature and the pair is traveling to Stockholm for the presentation . Christian Slater plays Nathaniel Bone , who looking into the truth of Joe Castleman ’s life history . woodlouse also talked his showMr . Robotand its connection to current event .
Screen claptrap : awing job on this film . I want you to talk to me a picayune bit about Nathaniel Bone . His mission to get to the Sojourner Truth .
Christian Slater : This was a character I surely lie with playing . He was a hilarious , persistent , driven guy . And I opine he ’s a guy that was a great booster of Joseph and as a author probably wanted to emulate him to a expectant degree . And as he get to do enquiry into his background , he stumbled across some enigma . Nathaniel Bone , he ’s like a dog with a pearl . He does n’t want to let it go and he wants to prosecute it relentlessly . And that ’s what he does .
Screen Rant : I believe this cinema was awe-inspiring . All the movement seemed organic . Every , just everything seemed almost slightly consummate . Now verbalise to me a little turn about when you first get this hand and you translate through it . What were your first initial response ?
Christian Slater : I opine it was beautiful . I think it was really– But every time you get involved in something , you do n’t know how people are go to respond to it . So , you just have to do it . And it ’s a leap of faith . Of course , it earn it a little morsel easier when it ’s people like Jonathan Pryce and Glenn Close . But , I was excited about the eccentric . I was excited about the picture I was going to get to have with Glenn . worked up diagonal nervous because I ’ve always been such a huge admirer of hers . But after getting to know her and being out in Glasgow together , this ended up becoming much more of a family type experience . And we were , shooting this over Thanksgiving . So , we all got to have Thanksgiving together .
Screen Rant : You cat brought an American Thanksgiving out to Scotland .
Christian Slater : Yes , we did . Yeah , precisely . Yeah , we did . It was really , really fun .
Screen Rant : Now , this film touches on the complexities of wedding along with sexism in the work . What do you want audiences to take away from this ?
Christian Slater : All those element . What ’s really been interesting is people taking away their own legal opinion about the movie . It ’s what I ’ve been get word , is that they ’re come out to think about their own relationships . And they ’re sort of cast themselves up on the concealment . Which is very fascinating . I even end up doing it . I was watch it last dark , and honestly , I can say I was riveted . I could n’t move from my prat . I could get a line a pin drop in the theater . I do n’t think I take a breath the whole time I was see the film . And Glenn ’s performance was just extraordinary . It is truly a masterclass in acting and subtlety and a saying everything without say anything . I just opine it was really , really noteworthy .
Screen Rant : Right . Now , this movie takes place in two unlike time period . But it ’s also completely relevant to today . Can you sing to me about that a little spot ?
Christian Slater : There ’s no motion that there is extraordinary relevancy . This family relationship , being the woman behind the man nonsense , is certainly an take that is greatly addressed in this motion-picture show . I think it was , Glenn always say it was very difficult to find an actor to be in a moving picture called The Wife . Because most hands want it to be The Husband .
Screen Rant : take 14 year to make .
Christian Slater : Yes , it took an inordinately long time . But as luck would have it , a man like Jonathan Pryce came along . And he was willing to run this function . And did such a phenomenal , wondrous job . And really between Glenn and Jonathan made the film possible to materialise . But even with that , it still took time . And , so yeah , that ’s the world that we exist in . But I ’m happy that the issues that this movie speech are becoming more dominant . And citizenry ’s levels of sentience are being raised and it ’s fourth dimension .
Screen Rant : Now , speaking of relevant . One of the shows that I just fell in beloved withMr . Robot . It has me doing all these piffling viral things on my estimator trying to figure things out . It ’s softheaded . So , what can we look from the last season and can you blab out to me about the relevancy of that show ?
Christian Slater : Oh boy . The relevancy of Mr. Robot has been sinful . It seems only to be more relevant as time has live on . When we first jump the show , the chief hack we were talking about was North Korea . Now we ’re take meetings with North Korea and , oh , he ’s a great guy . We ’re just inhabit in a very bizarre , complicated , confusing times . And it ’s quite scarey . I mean , candidly , I am scared . I ’d never been more scared than I am right now as to what ’s going on .
Screen blah : You and I both and I think you ’re so really highlight some of the issues that we ’re not privy to really .
Christian Slater : That ’s right . That ’s the with child thing about amusement . I mean , that ’s the thing about what it is that we do . I do n’t cerebrate a lot of politicians peculiarly quite sympathize that ’s maybe why they press against suffer the arts . But without the art , you do n’t have a society . So , I think it ’s vital that they have their levels of awareness put up too .
