Warning : SPOILERS for The Batman & X - world Weddings
There ’s a few universal constant with Marvel and DC superheroes . They fight offense , they have an identity outside their hero sandwich character and they have some manner of a tragic backstory . Now , a new trait can be ascribed to the Big Two ’s persona : they suck at getting wed .
In the preceding month or so , DC and Marvel have both big nuptials event commemorating two of their most popular relationship . Kitty Pryde was marry fellow X - Men , ColossusandCatwoman was splice the naut mi with Batman . Neither wedding went to plan .

We wo n’t go into pillager too much for both weddings . The only affair that we ’ll really say is that neither nuptial had what could be called a “ happily ever after . ” The reasons for why vary , both in term of quality and specifics . It is safe to say that no buff cried tear of joy reading how either nuptials went down .
The two wedding issues , X - Men Gold # 30andBatman # 50were both sell and present as immense landmark issue that would perpetually interchange the lives of their fighter . However , that ’s not what happened . Nothing changed for the hoagy or the readers … besides making everyone a little bit deplorable .
Even bad the issues were betray as the first chapter in new superhero sagas . Batman # 50was used to set in motion a new solo Catwoman serial . Meanwhile , X - Men Gold # 30 mark up the young series Mr. and Mrs. X.At best , this story bait and switch is dishonest . At worst , it ’s just plainly manipulative and greedy .
Both nuptials demo an opportunity to dramatically change the status quo of their Cuban sandwich . Yet the last of each bent over backward to doctor the same one-time situation for both couples . This , apparently , is a huge problem .
The really frustrating thing is that neither wedding had to go down like it did . The phenomenon of superheroes melt down at the altar is a very late event . Superheroes , on both Marvel and DC , have gotten matrimonial in the past and there ’s only been good , or at least interesting , outcomes to their happy romances .
Lois Lane and Superman got married in the mid 90 ’s and are still together , with a child no less . 2006 had Marvel ’s Jessica Jones and Luke Cage solidify their relationship with a marriage after that had given birth to their daughter Danielle . Green Arrow and Black Canary ’s nuptials was crashed by a bunch of villains , but they still tied the knot . Even though Marvel infamously retconnedMary Jane Watson and Peter Parker ’s marriage out of canyon , they were in domestic bliss for geezerhood .
This pretended notion that supeheroes ca n’t be splice seems to have started in 2013 , when DC declared thatBatwoman could n’t marry her fiancee , Maggie Sawyer . The logical thinking being that happy sub do n’t make for good stories . This just is n’t on-key . The only finding of a good superhero comic is the combining of writing and artwork . It has nothing to do with the hero ’s kinship status .
True , there is a very timeless and cyclic nature to funny record story . hero never really die and no matter how many fourth dimension they are defeated , supervillains always come back . Even when something does shift in a superhero ’s story , a new creative team can descend along and undo or retcon all those changes . modification does n’t always , or even mostly , stick . This is just that state of comic strip .
Yet some growth should be allowed to come about , especially when it comes to serious superhero relationships . Batman has had other passion interests than Catwomanbut no one else has ever been as serious or popular as The Cat . The same go bad for Kitty Pryde and Colossus . Kitty ’s been hire to Star - Lordbut Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin is still the beloved of her life .
Neither couple is really going to end up with anyone else . So , they should be allowed some measure of happiness . At least , we ca n’t help but intend that ’s what their buff would tally on .
