In Netflix ’s fresh original sci - fi film , Extinction , Michael Peña plays a man plagued by visions of an alien encroachment , who then finds his dreams bring horribly to life as he and his class seek to survive the genocide . Directed by Ben Young , Extinctionat first seems like a typical encroachment picture show along the lines ofCloverfieldorWar of the Worlds , but a mid - movie wrench reveals that there ’s more to the story than meets the eye .

While Peter and Alice are unconscious , they regain all of their memories of the golem revolt , and realize that their daughters are in reality two orphan synth small fry whose human " parent " were killed during the fight .
