The Wife
Legendary player Glenn Close joins Jonathan Pryce and Christian Slater inThe Wife . The film is establish on the novel of the same name by Meg Wolitzer , directed by Björn Runge , with a screenplay by Jane Anderson . It state the story of Joan Castleman ( Glenn Close ) reflect on her aliveness during a stumble to Stockholm . Her husband , Joe Castleman ( Jonathan Pryce ) , is going to incur a Nobel Prize in Literature and the couple is travel to Stockholm for the presentation . near also gave talked about her role inGuardians of the Galaxy .
Screen Rant : marvellous job on the film . Amazing public presentation . Can you lecture to me about the collaborationism cognitive process between yourself , Björn , and Jane ?
Glenn Close : Oh boy .
Screen Rant : Because it seemed– I read , the handwriting kept kind of germinate all the way up until the edit and picture were locked , pretty much .
Glenn Close : Oh , absolutely . We did a mickle of very rigorous thought process , talking , rewriting , shaping for the week before we set off inject . And then , even in sure prospect , we did a little changing .
Screen Rant : Jonathan was telling me that . Because the functioning in movement , seems so constitutive . Everything seems so constitutive . And he was telling me that he hardly even notice the cameras around . And it bleeds through because you just see raw emotion and everything that ’s going on . Can you blab out to me about that a short bit ?
Glenn Close : Yes . I think Björn , who is a smashing theatre director , comes out of that , that incredible Bergman school of filmmaking , in that they just know where to put the television camera . To pick up what the thespian are doing . Not only where to put the camera , when do you use a penny-pinching - up , how to light close - ups so you may see into somebody ’s optic . That is so basic to whether an audience will appease emotionally connected . He knows how to do that . So , we learned very early on to trust that he was doing that . That what we were doing was going to be working .
Screen Rant : Yeah , you ’re right . Because when you see those , there ’s a couple of close - ups that I see of you . And then to back of it ’s a completely different motion almost . And it just works absolutely . Now , it consider place in a couplet different eras . We have the fifties and the nineties . But it ’s very relevant to today . So , can you spill to me about how relevant it is for today ’s hearing ? This motion-picture show ?
Glenn Close : I cogitate it ’s incredibly relevant . It ’s about , how woman fulfill or do not live up to themselves in a relationship . How much do you give ? What ’s the rest of power within a family relationship ? It ’s jolly basic , I think , to talk about the Me Too movement . It ’s aright in there . I reckon it ’s telling that a movie called The Wife , written by a woman , based on a novel by a woman , took 14 years to get made . That speaks to how it was . I recall also we talk to how we go for it will be , with the amount of charwoman that were actually postulate in the moving-picture show and the production .
Screen Rant : I read that 14 years ago , a lot of sept may have go past on the film because it was called The Wife and not The Husband , which is kind of unearthly .
Glenn Close : [ LAUGHS ] No , it ’s not .
Screen Rant : I mean , it ’s not unearthly , but also , one thing that this movie plain touches upon is the complexities of marriage and sexism in the work . What do you want audiences to take by from this ?
Glenn Close : I would do it audience to have really rigorous conversation themselves after they see this film . And to appraise how truly fulfill they are and how much via media are they uncoerced to continue . I think that would be , that would be healthy .
Screen Rant : Right . Now , switch gear for a second , I have to ask for my own fandom . I loved you in Guardians of the Galaxy . Is there any talk with Marvel about bringing you back in the Nova Corps ?
Glenn Close : Oh , God . I would love it . I would sleep with it . I was told in the 2nd one that they were were n’t going to my planet . But I said , wait a second gear , she was the head of the whole existence , was n’t she ? Well , anyway . I would love it . It was a dream fall dependable to be in that film . I love that genre . And I think she was a middling kick ass character .
