The difference , of course , is that this time most fans will be desperately hoping Spencer ’s storychangesthe condition quo .
What makes this all the more remarkable is that Spencer is choosing to deviate from the picture to a spectacular extent . Many of Marvel ’s recent strategy have essentially been little more than an attempt to mirror the films , in the hope some of the the great unwashed who sour up to theaters will go on to pluck up comics . That would be a similar approach to Quesada ’s , stressing Peter Parker ’s youth and singleness . But Spencer is happily embracing another aspect of the Spider - Man mythology , Peter ’s love for Mary Jane . It ’s going to be exciting to see where this story goes next .
